News & Information
As defined by Wikipedia & TechEncyclopedia the definitions
of a "Home Network" and a Small Office / Home Office "SOHO
Network" are as follows:
Home Network / hLAN - (home Local Area Network)
Home networks interconnect
two or more computers within a home allowing for shared resources
and shared broadband Internet access by all computers. Home networks
are often smaller scale versions of similarly designed Ethernet
networks used by companies.
SOHO Network
A SOHO network is a Small office/Home office local area network.
Generally SOHO networks are used to share files and other resources
as well as broadband Internet access by all computers. A SOHO network
may also have a server, which is a high powered computer used by
other computers on the network for central data access, central
data backup, etc. SOHO networks generally are confined to a single
building or single room within a building.
Similarities Between Home & SOHO networks:
Generally both networks use a combination of several devices including:
routers, ethernet switches or hubs, cat 5 or cat 6 ethernet cables
and broadband modems. Both networks are also beginning to heavily
incorporate "Wi-Fi" Wireless
accessibility into their network design. Wireless technology
offers the main advantage of mobility (networking without wires),
but as the technology is fairly new and posses significant security
concerns, it is not the preferred method of network
design.
Differences Between Home & SOHO networks:
The major distinguishing design factor between Home and SOHO ("business")
networks being that home networks are usually configured as one
network, whereas business networks
may have many sub-networks for traffic and security purposes.
We define our SOHO networks as having a maximum of 20 computers.
Now that you understand the kind of computer networks that we service,
